A ceremony to mark the centenary of the death in action of a Welsh Guardsman in World War I was held at Insole Court, Llandaff, Cardiff on 12th April 2018.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion Welsh Guards attended the event at Insole Court today to remember Captain George Claude Latham Insole MC - after whose family Llandaff's Insole Court is named.
He was one of the first officers to join the Welsh Guards when they formed in 1915. During his time he was involved on the Western Front and continued to serve despite being wounded on a few occasions. He was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry on the field and devotion to duty.
He was killed in action, aged 30, on April 12, 1918, in Boyelles, France.
Today's ceremony, which saw the reinstatement of a plaque at his memorial tree, first dedicated in 2007, was also attended by Captain Sir Norman Lloyd-Edwards and the Lord Lieutenant of South Glamorgan Mrs Morfudd Ann Meredith.
Event organiser Alun Salisbury, of the Insole Court Research Group and Western Front Association, read a tribute before The Last Post was played.
