On Sunday 8th May 2022 the Welsh Guards Association was able to meet and hold the annual race day at Ludlow Racetrack, the first time since 2019 due to the Covid restrictions in 2020 and 2021.
It was a particularly poignant event as it coincided with a memorial event, attended by 250 family, friends and colleagues, arranged by Mrs Sue Lewis in memory of Colonel DRP Lewis, Regimental Lieutenant Colonel from Nov 82 to Mar 87 and who sadly died in October 2019.
The traditional Welsh Guards Association Handicap Hurdle was given over to the memory of Colonel David Lewis and renamed the Welsh Guards Association David Scrumpy Lewis Handicap Hurdle. Our race was the fourth of seven and started at 3.40pm. It was won by Sofia's Rock, ridden by Nick Skelton and the trophy was presented to the winning owners by Mrs Sue Lewis.
25 members attended the event and enjoyed a three course meal in a private dining room in the Jubilee Stand overlooking the finishing line.
