The Welsh Guards Association has very kindly been invited to celebrate St David's Day on Wednesday 1st March 2023 with the Battalion in Combermere Barracks, Windsor, (St Leonards Road, SL4 3DN) this year.  Major General Christopher Ghika, The Major General Commanding The Household Division and London District, will present the Leeks.

There should be around 340 Battalion personnel present. Number 2 Company will be on Op RED STRIKE in Jamaica. The Regimental Band will, as always, be attending.

Format of the Day

For a number of reasons, the format of the day has been changed, although of course including the traditional elements.  Amongst other things, the emphasis has been to be a little more inclusive of the Guardsmen on the day and this includes a rugby match between Lance Corporals and Guardsmen.

The programme is as follows

1100 – 1120 Drumhead Service on the main square

1120 – 1200 Presentation of Leeks and parade

1200 – 1330 All Ranks/Guests Curry buffet lunch in Gym/Marquee - tickets required

1330 - Depart for Rugby Match.  The Battalion are walking, but a coach being laid on for Club and Association members. Those not wishing to attend can remain with refreshments in the Gym/Marquee. Match being played at the Garrison Sports Ground, Kings Road, SL4 2BD

1400 - Solo Cup - Gdsm v L/Cpls Rugby Match (the pitch is about a mile from the barracks)

1600 – 1830 Entertainment (Band and other details tbc) Gym/Marquee.

1900 Retire to Messes (with Officers being invited to the Sgts’ Mess at 2000).

Combermere Barracks Security Access & Parking

The security is such at Combermere Barracks that only Association members who have registered their attendance with their Branch Secretaries and who are placed on the access list will be permitted into Barracks.  Car Parking in Barracks is very limited and again, only those vehicles which have been pre registered (Make, model, colour and VRN required) through Branch Secretaries, will gain access.
